Fighting for Fairness and Equality
As a Member of the LGBTQ+ Community, I stand up proudly in support of fairness and equality for all.
I support the Trans Community in Kentucky, especially as they come under assault from ideological extremists. And I oppose the government getting involved with parents’ decisions on what’s best for their children’s healthcare.
We know that LGBTQIA+ youth are already at risk of suicide at four times the rate of their peers. In spite of this, our legislature continues to bully these vulnerable young people with bills that keep them out of sports and limit their access to life-saving health care. If elected, Jamie will stand up for our LGBTQIA youth in the General Assembly.
There is extremely harmful legislation being introduced in the Kentucky General Assembly than what is listed in the question, Senate Bill 72 would allow healthcare providers to deny care based on their “conscience.” There is a blatant war raging against the gay community and I will fight tirelessly to stop this dangerous legislation. All of the hate and discrimination rhetoric causes harm to members in the community. When someone constantly hears they aren’t good enough, they start to believe it and experience mental trauma. Emotional abuse includes non-physical behaviors that are meant to control, isolate, or frighten you. Over time, emotional abuse can wear down a person’s self-worth, confidence, and their mental and emotional strength. This has led to a rise in suicide in the LGBTQ community, as well as mental health struggles. Children should be taught from a young age about all the differences in society, including sexual orientation, race, culture, religion, and celebrate diversity.
These are current anti-LGBTQ bills proposed in the Kentucky General Assembly:
Senate Bill 26: Anti-DEI in K-12 Schools
Senate Bill 72: Healthcare Discrimination Bill
House Bill 170: “License to Discriminate”
House Bill 334: Gender Re-Definition Bill
House Bill 360: Drag Criminalization
House Bill 475: Strict Gender Binary Bill
House Bill 553: Broad Trans Healthcare Denial Bill
There is one great bill proposed, “to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity":
Senate Bill 115: Statewide Fairness Law
As a member of the LGBTQ community, I am directly impacted by all the discriminatory legislation directed at the community. We have ZERO LGBTQ members in the Kentucky House of Representatives, so it is crucial that we get leaders from the community elected and have a seat at the table. Representation matters.
I also believe gender-affirming care is a critical component of healthcare and that families and their medical providers should be trusted to make decisions without government interference.
